Alexandra is something to behold. She is a gorgeous authentic dhokra (dhokra is a non–ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting technique) elephant box is made from beautiful combination of brass and bronze. This sort of metal casting has been used in India for over 4,000 years and is still used. The product of dhokra artisans are in great demand in domestic and foreign markets because of primitive simplicity, enchanting folk motifs and forceful form. The box features a hinged lid on one side and a latch on the other. There are four feet at the bottom and the top has a round carrying ring. Lots of beautiful details and nice heavy weight (around 5 lbs!). Rare piece in great condition with natural patina from the age.
